Moving is a stressful undertaking; so if there is any way to make it simpler or quicker, you’re going to want to know about it. With cleaning, packing, organizing and then unpacking at a new house, there is an overwhelming amount of things to be done.

The good news is that after it’s all said and done, you get to enjoy a new place to live and move on from your old home. How can you make this process simple and quick so that you can get settled in the new place sooner? Here are some tips to make this an easier process.

Have a Moving Party

What’s better than making something stressful and turning it into something fun? Have a moving party with friends and family that can help you out. Offer pizza and drinks for those that come help you out and there will be an extra incentive for them to help you out. For those that live out of state, you can call an interstate moving company to help you with the heavy lifting.

Packing Tricks

Packing is one of the worst parts because you have to figure out how to maneuver all of the things you own into organized boxes, label them for the new house and figure out how to protect your breakables. Try a few tricks to help prevent broken items and losing important things.

Make an expandable file folder for your important documents like passports, mail, receipts and birth certificates. You may need these items and you can’t afford to misplace them. Color-code your boxes for each room they will go in to make unloading them super simple.

Use trash bags as a bag for blankets, pillows and garment bags and consider packing electronics carefully by keeping cables, remotes and accessories in one container. Try putting cables through toilet paper tubes and wrapping the cable around cardboard.

Final Tips

Be sure to start packing early enough to make the process less stressful. Try to start sleeping at the new place a week before you move in so that you can get your utilities set up and start taking note of what furniture would make sense where in the house now that you are there and getting used to the new layout. Make sure you’ve packed a week’s worth of stuff in a “survival box” including dishes, coffee, kids toys, bedding and anything else you’ll need right at first.

Be sure to throw a housewarming party no sooner than a month after arriving so that you have time to get settled.
