Showing up at construction site unannounced is a big NO. Even if you work in construction you should not show up without an appointment. It is an irresistible urge to not stop in and take a sneak. There are many reasons why you should not do this though. Here are some reasons you should avoid popping in.

Safety

On a jobsite there are many safety hazards. Construction workers take safety measures such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots and hard hats. A builder has liability insurance for their workers but it does not mean that you will be covered under that insurance.

Need to Stay on Schedule

You have made lots of decisions and picked out a lot of colors and fixtures for your new home and now it is starting to come together.

Stopping by unannounced will slow the progress of putting your choices together in building your home. The builder will set up scheduled visits so that you can monitor the progress of the build.

Visit at the Right Time

At critical times throughout the construction process your builder will schedule visits in advance for walk-throughs. During the selection process of finding your builder you need to ask them their policy about scheduled visits and how many there will be.

The Mechanical Walk-Through

Bring your hard hat for this walk-through. You will be able to get a general feel of what your home is really going to be like. The foundation, framing, roof and most windows and doors will be installed but not finished.

You can always ask for picture updates email or text to help hold you over until the next walk-through. By sticking to your scheduled visits you will be helping to ensure that everything stays on schedule with your build.
