Any interior designer is going to tell you that lighting is one of the most important aspects of a design. Basically, the lighting of a room can make or break the room depending on whether or not it was well planned. Unfortunately, the same can be said for outdoor lighting as well.

While it does wonders for your curb appeal, it can also trash the visual appeal of your home if you make silly mistakes. Fortunately, there are some easy tips to remember to make sure your outdoor lighting looks great.

Always Go Green

LED light fixtures are going to be your best friend. They use less energy, they come in a wide range of colors, and they just last longer. LED also comes in finished looks instead of just frosted looks.

Avoid Small Fixtures

Small fixtures are almost always a waste of money. Sure, that tiny security light looks adorable – but, how much of an impact is it really going to have on the curb appeal of your home? It is a waste of money to invest in small lighting fixtures that are going to be hard to see unless someone is up close and personal with your home.

Pay Attention to the Wattage

It is never a good idea for you to choose a light bulb with more wattage than a fixture can handle. This is going to look bad and it is going to destroy the fixture. Using a light bulb with a higher wattage than what is recommended can also be extremely dangerous to anyone who spends time around the light bulb.

As you are setting up your light fixtures outdoor, do not forget about the back and sides of your home. Just because the front is the easiest to see, does not mean it is the only spot that needs lights. Your home will look unfinished if you do not do your entire outside area.
